Casa Vision Screener
MACULAR DEGENERATION
A UNIQUE VISUAL SCREENING TEST FOR THE WET FORM OF MACULAR DEGENERATION
The casa vision eye chart screener utilizes the 3 diagnostic colors of chromatic aberration which are green, yellow or red. With the casa-vision screener when a HYPEROPIC shift takes place, the observer will see better in green than in yellow and red.
The wet form of macular degeneration demonstrates a HYPEROPIC shift due to the nature of the condition. It is known that the crucial period in the wet form are the first 3 months. Regular online self-testing using the casa-vision screener will alert the observer to a sudden change in clarity within the green color.
All dry form patients of this condition should also perform regular self-testing online as a percentage of them will go on to develop the wet form of macular degeneration. Noticing changes in the green color would motivate the patient to seek early consultation with the eye doctor before the development of the choroidal neovascular membrane.

The history of Casa Vision Screener
The CASA VISION SCREENER is a self testing vision chart, which was developed in response to a need for vision screening of the general population. The idea for the chart came when Dr. Yalovsky's son developed a cataract at the age of six. Untreated, his son could have gone blind. Passionate about developing a quick and easy diagnosis for detecting vision difficulties, Dr. Yalovsky developed a screener with Dr. Cianciullo and a grant from Pfizer.
The company's first major project involved placing these screeners in all Pharmaprix pharmacies. They were positioned in the waiting area adjacent to the prescription counter. The pharmacy now offers vision screening as part of its many other health services (i.e.: Blood pressure monitoring). Pfizer was integral in sponsoring this project.
More recent projects included establishing the presence of these screeners in optical retail outlets. Johnson & Johnson Vision Care endorsed this
endeavor. With these charts strategically placed in the waiting area/frame room, stores provided ample opportunity for passers-by to engage in self-testing.
