LRI (Limbal Relaxing Incisions)
Limbal Relaxing Incisions is a newer technique that is a variation of Astigmatic Keratotomy. Astigmatism occurs when the eye begins to lose it's spherical shape, become more like an oval, or a football. |
SRP (Surgical Reversal of Presbyopia)
SRP is an investigational procedure not yet performed in the United States. The Presby Corp. has just received FDA approval to begin preliminary testing. Lasersurgeryforeyes.com is not advocating or endorsing this procedure. |
AK (Astigmatic Keratotomy)
Glasses and contact lenses are only temporary solutions. When you take them off, your vision blurs again. There are also various other factors, like allergies, that prevent many people from wearing contact lenses. And of course, there are times when surgery and only surgery can restore vision.

Intraocular Contact Lenses (ICL)
The STAAR ICL™ is an intraocular lens implant designed for the correction of moderate to high myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness). The ICL™ is still in clinical trials for approval from the FDA.

IntraLASIK
IntraLASIK is variation of the LASIK procedure, and is prescribed for the same eye conditions: Astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness.
|
LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis)
LASEK is a relatively new procedure that sits somewhere between LASIK and PRK. In LASEK, instead of using a microkeratome, a blade called a trephine is used. The trephine allows for the cutting of much thinner epithelium flap. This makes LASEK ideal for people whose corneas are too thin for LASIK.
|
PIOL (Phakic Intraocular Lenses)
Phakic Intraocular Lenses are still in FDA clinical trials. PIOL are currently best prescribed for nearsighted and farsighted patients.
|
LASIK
LASIK Laser in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is a surgical procedure that is able to correct a wide range of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. LASIK combines the precision of the excimer laser that is used in PRK surgeries with the flap technique that characterizes ALK.
|
RK (Radial Keratotomy)
Glasses and contact lenses are only temporary solutions. When you take them off, your vision blurs again. There are also various other factors, like allergies, that prevent many people from wearing contact lenses. And of course, there are times when surgery and only surgery can restore vision.
|
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
Photorefractive Keratectomy is currently best prescribed for nearsighted patients.
|
PRELEX
While Prelex is still in clinical trials, it is currently offered by a number of doctors within the United States. It is one of the only surgeries available for presbyopia.
